The implication I got in the moment was "We all have to suffer because the Christians are dicks." I guess it was the character's monolithic "All Christians are to blame" stance that made me think that. But now that you mention it's just his bias, it makes more sense to me and I am not bothered anymore. It also helps that the Christians who raised Anders were decent and not related to those who were responsible. It seems more realistic to me that in the larger background of the world, some Christians did bad things, some Christians did good things, and characters formed opinions about them based on personal experience. So, objection withdrawn! Thank you for explaining.
