I definitely sympathize with the lack of arch support issue. Deciding 'I don't have appropriate native foot garb, so I'll go barefoot as Tall Bear' was not one of my better decisions this year.

Doubt there's much I can help with the human-ness, but you've got friends who worry about you. *hugs*
