I don't know what made me think about this just now, maybe it's watching Scrubs and seeing it alluded to therein. But I've been thinking that I wish there was a way for the medical establishment to ensure to that information about patients was shared among all the people who would be their care providers. Specifically I'm thinking about how a passel of different doctors and nurses can come through taking care of the patient without knowing what's up or what has happened to them. It sometimes means the carers behave insensitively, or that the patient has to explain what's up over and over again. It's not a big deal with most cases, I guess, but I've been there when news that was truly devastating was delivered and the parade of people coming through often behaved in insensitive, painful ways without even realizing it.

I don't blame the practitioners, I think it's a fault of the way the system in which they work is designed. I think it would be highly worth overhauling it for better information sharing. I'm not sure how you would accomplish this. Maybe a mainframe that all patient-facing employees had access to that info is logged into as it occurs, allowing people to prepare themselves before they interact. Maybe that would take too long. I don't know. But I really wish I wouldn't have had to deal with so many people who hadn't known how badly we were feeling in that moment.
