All Eyes on Me

Today’s scene is a Text from Avengers Tower that was inspired by the meme below. It’s another one where a small feature of a character interaction is turned into a little observational joke. It’s dumb, but made me laugh. THAT’S ENOUGH FOR ME.



( Day #16 - First Impression )

I saw the Deadpool and Wolverine movie last weekend and enjoyed it very much, as I tend to with Marvel movies— they just make me happy in an uncomplicated way. It also reminded me that it’s been a really long time since I wrote a new Text from Avengers Tower, so I better get on that.

The fun of this one was working to capture Deadpool’s, shall we say, particular speaking idiom. Besides his obvious colorful vulgarity, his sentences use vivid vocabulary, can be surprisingly complex in structure, and are jam-packed with imagery. One of the things I love to do in fan fiction is capture the spirit of the source material, particularly coming up with original dialogue that still sounds believably in the characters’ voices. Texts from Avengers Tower has the additional dimension of figuring out how those same characters would text, such that their voices come through filtered by the way they would use the technology.

I think I did an okay job of that here. 😆 Minor spoilers for the Deadpool and Wolverine movie.

Dumb, dumb, dumb as hell. 😆 Not even posting it to the actual Texts from Avengers Tower fic yet, as I’d like to edit it first. But hey, it’s something! Something for 31P31D #30, and a kernel of something sort of maybe to make a person laugh?

WHATEVER I JUST NEED TO FINISH THIS DAMN CHALLENGE. Here we have Scott Lang group-texting Clint Barton, Bruce Banner, and Thor, just a little bit after Avengers: Endgame.



( Day #30 - Assembling )

I have decided to count bits written for Texts from Avengers Tower in this challenge. I sometimes feel weirdly guilty about all the ways I violate the original rules of the 31 Plays in 31 Days challenge— writing scenes instead of plays, not always reaching a full page, using screenplay instead of script form, working out scenes eventually intended to be prose as dialogue-only versions, et cetera, et cetera. But then I remember the original challenge doesn’t even formally exist anymore; if I’m going to keep doing this on my own, it should serve my creative needs, not some arbitrary standard. And my creative needs happen to include writing dumb text-speak exchanges between MCU characters to flesh out what is far and away the most popular thing I’ve ever written.

Last year’s 31P31D came on the heels of having challenged myself to write and post a new text every day for a hundred days, between April 9th and July 25th 2022. I was really proud of what I wrote, and as I said, given that it’s generated over 41 thousand hits, it’s definitely the most read piece in my oeuvre— for whatever that’s worth! I can’t help but wish my more important, original, and labor-intensive pieces had that honor, but, hey, it’s better than nobody caring about nothin’.

So here’s one more. I’m up to 114!
