I got the first of my castings for Intercon at last! I will be playing Livia Carbo in the Bloody Harvest of Pomona. To costume for this Ancient Roman game, I decided to take the same tack I used for the Ancient Greek game. I researched what Roman women wore-- a chiton-like dress called a stola --and went on eBay to find dresses that the appropriate styling and details. I concentrated on the gathering at the shoulders that wraps over each side of the bust, cinching just beneath it, and the flowing silhouette. I also wanted a nice color, definitely not black or white. This is what I ended up with.

It's a fairly loose interpretation, I know. Especially the bling. But I like the long flowing pleats, and the drapey cowl back. It does bear a fair resemblance to the costuming in the Masterpiece Theater "I, Claudius" miniseries, which works for me. I also want to put my hair up in a way that is suggestive of the Roman fashion. I'll have to do some research on that, and practice. But I'm reasonably happy with it.
