Most people complaining aren't bemoaning the existence of the holiday, or the opportunity to do something special, most are secretly bemoaning the heavy handed reminder that they themselves lack something in the relationship department, in one form or another, and that they are secretly envious of people who have what they don't, or are simply annoyed at others who take it as an excuse to be overly demonstrative in a public fashion.
