The colors are a little distorted in your picture, so the dark red ends up looking pink. I'm imagining your friar being faaaaaabulous!!!
It should be fairly easy to make a caftan-type garment with that cream-colored fabric--you basically just want to fold your fabric cross-wise, and cut and sew T-shape out of it that which matches your shape. Think something similar to my Al-Ashtara costume.
You could maybe use the red to make a stole, like a priest would wear for holiday/seasonal occasions? (I know, friars aren't priests. But I think it would give the right impression, which is all that really matters).
