I'm going to guess it's just musing on the reader's part, too--and even if it's not, it's probably healthiest to treat it as one. There's a saying in writing fiction about trusting your readers to tell you when something is wrong, but not trusting them at all to tell you how to fix it. This seems relevant here -- this reader is probably reacting to something that didn't work for them, but isn't terribly articulate about WHAT. It might be something that has nothing to do with Aidan and Morna, though.
Sadly, I have not yet read Adonis because I am in serious critique bankruptcy right now, so I can't give you my own take on what that might be :(
