Glad to hear you're interested! As to the story, it's a combination of both, really. This is a bit meta-gamey, so your character will have to find this out as it progresses, but the basic idea is that in the course of the characters going on missions they discover something deeper going on that they will have to deal with, leading to the exploration of themes like sin and temptation, and specificially how our choices are our own.

Don't worry about upper bounds in the stats. Also, pardon my attempt to write formulas, they're probably not technically mathematically proper, but the base 10 and 5 do not come out of the 40 points. Whatever you take out of the 40 is added to the stat's respective base.
