Yesterday I shot the stop motion footage for episode 2 of Little Monsters, the script of which I posted this month as #3 - “Made Wrong”. I really enjoy that process. It’s a fun little solitary creative challenge for me, where I can hone my filmmaking skills on a small scale and enjoy the process of coordinating my brain and my hands.
Late last night I came up with another script, yet again dumb but made me laugh. I’ve always enjoyed the gag of when a character doesn’t speak intelligibly to the audience, but the people around them respond like they understand them. I’m not sure if the current version of the Monster High zombie girl does, but she used to only make grumbly zombie noises, pretty much a variation on the Groot/Boomhauer/Chewbacca gag. Which I confess I love in every case.
I’ve basically used this joke before in Texts from Avengers Tower, but I don’t care. I’m going for it. :-D

Day #23 - “The Right Words”
From Little Monsters by Phoebe Roberts
LAGOONA BLUE, a sea monster girl, late teens
GHOULIA YELPS, a zombie girl, late teens
~~~
(LAGOONA and GHOULIA enter from opposite sides of the student lounge. They stop when they see each other.)
LAGOONA: Don’t even talk to me, Ghoulia.
GHOULIA: (plaintive zombie groans)
LAGOONA: Oh, my God. How can you even say that to me?
GHOULIA: (remorseful zombie groans)
LAGOONA: I don’t even know if I can believe that. Things have been said that cannot be unsaid.
GHOULIA: (impassioned zombie groans)
LAGOONA: Wait. Do you really mean that?
GHOULIA: (heartfelt zombie groans)
LAGOONA: Oh, Ghoulia! Right back at you, sweetie.
(They hug.)
LAGOONA: How is it you always know just the right thing to say?
