I don't understand people who stick around where they're not wanted.

Why would anybody want to be the friend of anybody who doesn't want to be theirs? I don't have the time to waste. It's a matter of self-respect.

Maybe I've got too much of a sense of my own importance. But my company is a privilege. If you're not going to appreciate it, you don't deserve it.

Personally, it takes awhile for that reaction to kick in. This is largely because on some level I'm almost always thinking there's a chance I might not be wanted, and if I acted on every instance I'd end up a hermit. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on who you ask XD) I've trained myself to ignore that faulty intuition. However, it means that there is no working intuition in its place.

That said, there ARE a few people with whom it's gotten to the point that I just don't bother. If someone wants to speed up the process, all they need to do is be obvious about it.

So yeah. Most often it's the result of being oblivious, or intentionally or unintentionally apathetic. Though I'm sure you'd find the occasional person who just likes being antagonistic.

I tend to automatically assume I'm not wanted unless people give me reason to believe otherwise. Sometimes, if I think the other person's feelings are due to a misunderstanding, I'll pursue the matter, but otherwise I try to get out if I know I'm not welcome. I do wish people would be clearer about things like that, though; there are few things I like less than someone who doesn't like me and for some reason pretends to want me around anyway (and I suspect there are a lot of people like that.)
