Cleaning and Joy Luck

I'm working on clearing out the useless stuff from my room. It gratifies the fuzzy feeling I get when I end up with a room that is nice and clean. And a lot of it is still good enough to donate. I have a big bag of clothes from when I was a size 4 and two boxes of old books to send to Goodwill, and a garbage bag of junk that needs to be thrown away. I keep coming across stuff that I want to keep but don't really do much for. I keep thinking if my life and happiness has so little to do with keeping these things around, might it be better not to worry so much about material things?
My lovely mother also surprised me with a copy of The Joy Luck Club, a movie I absolutely love-- and I promise it's not because I love looking at the gorgeous actresses. Well, not only because of it. If you haven't seen it, I highly reccomend it, if only to gawp at the pretty, pretty ladies that fill it. It tells the stories of four Chinese-American mother-daughter pairs and how they're trying to understand each other. I relate to one of the daughters' story in some surprising, thought-provoking ways. It's a beautiful story (told by beautiful people ;-)) and it feels very true in so many little ways, so see it. Watch it with me, in fact, I'm bringing it to school with me.
