May. 28th, 2007 10:12 pmIt's distressing how much of Hamlet is going to have to be cut for time. It's Shakespeare's longest play, and it's full script tends to run in excess of four hours, and I just can't ask the audience to sit for that long. So in addition to this being a difficult process, it's a frustrating one, because there's so much I love in the script that's just going to have to go in the interest of time.
Looks like I'm going to be working from 11AM to 3:30PM Monday through Friday from now on. I'm going to try to be as model an employee as I can, so when I need to take a Friday off here and there, they won't mind giving it to me.
I'm finally doing some writing, other than my lousy poetry. I have about six million projects begun that aren't getting finished because I never finish anything. I'm too much a perfectionist with my prose, so I take my time with it to excess. I also don't think linearly, so everything's so fragmented that I can't show it to anyone in its unfinished form because it won't make any sense. But I did a little work today on a short story, which isn't much, but it's something. The only time I ever finish anything is when I have some kind of outside force creating a deadline for me-- Alice is an excellent example. I wrote the Alice sheets almost entirely over the week-and-a-half spring break we had, despite the fact that I'd been working on it since... I think September or October. Being a huge procrastinator doesn't help either. *Sigh* Ah, well. Something's better than nothing.
Poetry Tally as of 10:19PM:
8 fixed rhyming verse
8 haikus
1 sestina
4 triolets
1 ballad
2 free verse
