Today is Mardi Gras, the last day before Lent begins, which means Phoebe has to overindulge in that which she is going to go without for the next forty days. For me, that means no processed sugar-- no soda, cake, pie, cookies, candy, ice cream, or anything of that like. Yeah, I'm fairly certain God is a hell of a lot more interested in whether I'm kind and honest and forgiving than in damning me for a cookie, but I get something out of it, so I keep the tradition.

I had a great time at the party I went to on Saturday, which was a combined Groundhog's Day/Mardi Gras party. Many, many fun people were there, and it was great to hang out with them. Had some great conversations with people I don't talk to as often as I'd like, and some I'd like to get to know better. I'd forgotten to dress up for the theme, unfortunately. I enjoy getting to go places in costume, so you'd think I'd take any excuse. I'm not a huge fan of the cloven orange game, but it's not a big deal, I'm completely comfortable rolling with it. Coming from an Italian family, everybody kisses everybody, and it's not hard to consider a kiss a friendly thing.

I have recently gotten a real credit card to use at my discretion. I don't mind telling you it kind of terrifies me. Until now, I'd always used a check card, which drew directly from my bank account. I liked that because with online banking it was very easier to monitor what I had and what I spent, and it became very easy to budget with those numbers in front of me. With a credit card, things are a little bit harder to conceptualize-- I'm still not sure how low I should keep my expediture in order to not abuse the thing. I also have to get in the habit of saving receipts now, because I can't go just check the records online. One benefit, I suppose, is that I haven't been buying things I don't absolutely need because I'm afraid of abusing my credit. Economy through fear. :-)

It occurs to me that  I've gone to a party every weekend since I got back to school.

Aren't I just the social dynamo. ;-) How strange.
