I just signed up for a two-hour workshop called "Hair Ornaments" which will be about learning the making of fascinators. It's being offered by The Boston Vintage Factory, a sewing and design studio opened by Kristin Augenfeld, who I met when stage-kittening for the Boston Baby Dolls. She was the costume designer for the show, and her work was really beautiful. She also has a blog called The Handmade Pin-Up, which has thus far detailed the renovating of the studio space, which looks gorgeous so far.

The description of the class is as follows:

"This 2-hour workshop covers the fundamentals of creating your own glamorous hair ornament! You will learn every aspect of the building process, from basic construction of your fascinator to embellishing it, as well as how to wear it using different methods of attachment. Various classic millinery techniques will be demonstrated and practiced, such as shaping and curling feathers. We will supply you with an extensive selection of materials and trims to play with and all of the high-quality tools required to achieve a professional finish. No sewing required and engaging for all skill levels!

This workshop will be presented twice: Sunday, September 23rd 2-4 p.m. and Wednesday, September 26th 6-8 p.m.

Cost is $30. Class size limited to 8. To sign-up, please e-mail bostonvintagefactory@gmail.com."

I'm signed up for the 9/26 workshop. I think this studio is a super-cool venture and I'm excited to support it by signing up for things. I'm looking forward to this studio offering more classes, particularly in sewing. I've wanted to take sewing classes for a while now to really learn how to do things properly, so I'll be keeping an eye out for what comes next.
