I made boxer shorts!
Sep. 7th, 2012 07:26 amI finished the first project I attempted out of Sew Everything Workshop, the Foxy Boxer shorts! Here's me in my new underwear. Couture lingerie, ooh la la.
A while ago I thrifted a whole lot of this coarse woven fabric, white with tiny blue boxes. I'm not sure what it is, but it's a little rough and a little ravelly. I thought it would be a good fit for this project.
I made a lot of mistakes. I must have done something backwards, because one half of the shorts is made with the inside of the fabric out, and the fly placket ended up on the wrong side. I also put the elastic in wrong, because I sewed the placket all the way up into where the casing should be, so I couldn't connect the elastic's two ends, they're just sewed to the fabric, which probably isn't all that secure. But my stitches are neat, especially on the placket, and I lined the pattern pieces up pretty well, which is good since I made these for practice rather than because I wanted to wear them. Good thing, too, since I probably should have picked a thinner elastic so it would stretch a little easier, and the coarseness of the fabric isn't the most comfortable against the skin.
