Hi there, I don't know that we've met (or met more than in passing at parties/events), but I sometimes read your public posts on people's f-lists.

Anyway, I wanted to comment on the idea of doing a play 4 times and switching the genders. It is a project I've looked into a number of times myself over the last 15 years. I actually did something similar as my senior thesis at Brandeis. I decided that the audience wouldn't want to watch the same scene 4 times, so I found a 2-person play and swapped it up between scenes. In my case, it wasn't people in drag, but actually changing the gender of the character.

I found it to be a very fun project, which yielded all sorts of surprises from a director's standpoint. And the audience seemed to like it and be willing to stay around for Q & A afterwards. I'm not at all clear it worked as a show, but it was interesting enough for me, the actors and the audience.

I'm still not sure whether repeating the same scene 4 times would hold the audience or not, but I can highly recommend the project from a directing standpoint.

(I'm happy to talk about what I did with the actors in this process, if you are interested.)
