We all have our different definitions, but I don't find any contradiction in generosity also providing something gratifying to the self. I guess that's the line I draw between "generosity" and "selflessness"; the latter implies, to me, that you are doing something without trying (and sometimes actively not trying) to benefit yourself in any way. But the former can allow for some (intended or otherwise) self-benefit, and I think that's perfectly reasonable. Throwing a party is beneficial to everyone involved, and I wouldn't say that getting something out of what you do makes it a less generous act, or a you a less generous person for throwing it.
