Finished 31 Plays in 31 Days, yaaaaaaay!

Slapped together this Baker Hall scene. Again, not sure the complete lack of originality of this idea doesn't overwhelmed the possible sellability and produceability to the point where it's not worth working on. This one in particular went very Mrs. Hawking, which makes it seem especially redundant. Still, I need stuff that somebody would actually make...


Day #31 - Skin a Cat

CHARLOTTE HOLMES, amateur detective
JANE WATSON, her friend helping her

(JANE stands at the front door of a dorm, looking up at where CHARLOTTE has climbed up to break in through the little windows on the roof.)

CHARLOTTE: Come on!

JANE: No.

CHARLOTTE: What are you, a pussy?

JANE: I don’t even think I could fit in there! I’m not like you, I can’t pretzel myself to get into every nook and cranny.

CHARLOTTE: So you’re not even going to try?

JANE: And what if I get stuck, huh? You going to cut me out with your little utility belt?

CHARLOTTE: I have bolt cutters! What do you think I am, some kind of amateur?

JANE: You’d need bigger cutters than your little ass can haul around. Look, why don’t you just go in yourself and unlock the front gate for me?

CHARLOTTE: You don’t think somebody might notice a big old gate swinging open?

JANE: Not as much as me wedged in there like a doorstop! Do it carefully, if you’re so damn good at this.

CHARLOTTE: See, this is why I work alone. Don’t have to worry about dragging around anybody else’s dead weight.

JANE: You wanted me to come with you!

CHARLOTTE: Because you said you wanted to help! But looks like you’re just going to be a pain.

JANE: There’s more than one way to skin a cat!

CHARLOTTE: Fine, how would you get into the building?

JANE: Oh, for Christ’s sake.

(She looks around until she sees another person walking by.)

JANE: Hey, sorry, I locked myself out of the dorm— would you mind getting the door for me?

(The guy unlocks the door for her and keeps on going.)

JANE: See you inside, weirdo.

(She goes in.)

For what it's worth, that got a real laugh out of me.

And it's worth noting that that comes from the fact that Jane is willing to casually show up Charlotte, in a way that Mary usually isn't willing to do to Mrs. Hawking. It illustrates the difference between the two stories: the power relationship is very different, and probably much more healthy...

Aw, I'm glad!

And thank you for mentioning that, it's a good point. Mrs. H and Mary are mentor and protege, while these two characters are supposed to be equals with different skill sets.
