A Song of Ice and Fire speculation

I've been reading George R.R. Martin's fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire and really enjoying it, and I just had a thought. 

Reading through the Wikipedia entry on Lyanna Stark, it mentions that her relationship to Rhaegar Targaryen was never quite clear, though he'd clearly shown interest of some kind in her, and that after he spirited her away she died of causes unspecified in a "bed of blood" after making Eddard swear an unknown vow that haunted him to the end of his days.

I think Jon Snow is her and Rhaegar's son. I think she had just given birth and was bleeding to death from it, and the promise she had Ned make was to take him, protect him, and not let anyone know he was the illegitimate son of the Targaryen prince.

Given how fiercely honorable Eddard Stark is, I have a hard time believing he would end up fathering a bastard. Even if you go by the logic that Jon was sired so early in his admittedly arranged marriage to Catelyn that they had not yet bonded and fallen in love, I really don't see him as the type to think it's okay to step out on any lawfully wedded wife, even one he didn't love. I do, however, see him as rigidly honorable enough to never tell ANYONE, not even his wife, that Jon wasn't really his bastard, if he'd sworn to his dying sister that he wouldn't.

So I think that Jon is really Lyanna's and Rhaegar's. Wonder if I'm right, or even if I'll ever find out.

This is a pretty common suggestion on forums (yes, I am a dork). If you would like to discuss it, this is something I love to do and would be more than happy to go on at length. Suffice it that I am a skeptic, not because I don't think it would be a good match, but because I generally don't hypothesize, but let the author tell me as it comes, which in turn lets me enjoy the story more while reading. The most fun I get out of theorizing is in the discussion with others.
