31 Plays in 31 Days, #30 - “Fresh Meat”
Aug. 30th, 2020 12:01 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
A transitional scene from Dream Machine episode 4, occurring between Day #24 - "Typecast" and Day #23 - "Tom Vincent, Six-Four". Notable mostly because for once it’s not Leah versus everybody else for being a pain— she’s actually got a not-totally-ridiculous reason for feeling the way she does.
The new character of casting director Kristen Kramer is loosely based on Sarah Finn, the woman who fought for at the time uncertain choices like Robert Downey, Jr. and unknowns like Chris Hemsworth to play leads in the Marvel universe. She sees both positions but brings a certain experienced practicality to it, because she’s good at finding talent on a budget. She’s going to be played by the fabulous Sarah Parisi Boci, with whom I peripherally worked in PMRP. It will be my first time getting to direct her, however, so I’m excited.

If you'd like to check out the episodes of Dream Machine so far, you can find them as follows:

INT. PAMPLEMOUSSE SMALL STAGE – DAY
Meredith grits her teeth as Leah finally arrives, arms loaded with a tray of Starbucks.
LEAH: Brought coffee! And by coffee, I mean creamy flavored sugar drinks that don’t have a drop of coffee in them.
KRISTEN: Ooh, my favorite.
MEREDITH: You didn’t talk to Devon.
LEAH: Ugh, did he rat me out?
MEREDITH: He didn’t know anything to rat out. Mostly because you didn’t talk to him. So I had to.
LEAH: Really. And how did that work out?
MEREDITH: He… said he wasn’t interested. Doesn’t want to get typecast in period romance.
LEAH: See? Should have listened to me. You can’t count on that guy.
Meredith sighs as Kristen helps herself to sugar drink.
KRISTEN: Look, no sense in chasing someone who doesn’t want the gig. We got plenty of possibilities on the slate today. Let’s check them out before we get desperate.
MEREDITH: Think they’ll be better?
KRISTEN: I think they’ll be cheaper. So... yeah, just about right.
MEREDITH: Whatever, fine. What are we looking at?
KRISTEN: Told everybody to come in with a monologue from a period romance, and a historical adventure. Want to bet on how many Aragorns and Mr. Darcys we’re going to get?
LEAH: Ooh, I’ll take that bet. Six and... two.
MEREDITH: So long as you’re happy, I guess.
LEAH: Come on, Mer, this is an exciting new chapter for us. We should be open to the possibilities!
Leah drops into her chair and throws her hands into the air.
LEAH: Send in the fresh meat!
