Ab work

Been working seriously on my abs again. Trying to do it as by the book as I can this time around, so I actually see results. They're actually looking not half bad at the moment, but there's still a ways to go, and I don't want to make the same mistakes I did last time I seriously attempted to do this. Because I never really saw exactly the results I wanted, it was suggested that I probably wasn't eating enough to build the proper muscle. I'm going to have to watch out for that again; my first instinct in these matters is to eat less. On top of that I've had a bad couple of days with a stress stomach ache, which means I haven't been eating much. Honestly a couple of days of it aren't so bad; it sleeked up some of the puffiness that was pissing me off, maybe gave a bit of a head start getting rid of some stored calories, but it isn't good for it to go on long or my metabolism will just go into starvation mode and I won't burn off anything, much less develop muscle.

In the interest of tracking my progress, I am taking a picture of myself so I can compare where I started to how I go.

What's your routine? I've started working out for Sea Semester, but while my arms and legs already feel stronger, my stomach has always given me trouble. Mostly I'm hoping that the running I'm doing will trim it down, but do you have any tips?

I'm following the advice of the Women's Health Abs Guide, a version of which I believe they release every year. It bases its exercises around a balance ball and hand weights, and I like them because they're challenging but still doable despite the fact that I'm not in as good shape as a marine.

This might seem like an odd question coming from me, but do you have any advice as to where one might find reliable workout routines in general (i mean sure they're all over the web and what not, but i have no idea which are actually legitimately whatever, and everyone always gives me contradicting and generally confusing advice)? My sister has decided she wants to get "buff like franni" this summer, and so i'm trying to do a workout routine with her but you know, i've always just done random crunches and pushups and stuff. Never actually been all that official and organized about it, though always thought it would be cool to actually know what i'm doing :P. What i really wish is that someone had trained me in some highly awesome form of combat from the age of 5, through which training i would now be thoroughly kickass.

Heh, I'm tempted to say that because she's you're sister she might have the same fantastic genes that allow you to look so fantastic with just the stuff that you do. But lightning rarely strikes twice, so I'm going to reccomend what I'm doing right now-- find a fitness magazine, I like Women's Health, and choose a workout they reccomend. I'm following their Abs Guide that they publish yearly, and I'm liking it so far.
