This is a good week for my pieces, apparently! I just got the news that my monologue "The Old House" is going to be produced at a festival called Queer Shorts in Madison, Wisconsin! When I originally wrote this piece as part of 31 Plays in 31 Days, it was about a lady talking to her late husband-- really, to herself --about her need to move out of their marital home in order to move on with her life without him. But when I saw a lot of calls for specifically queer-themed plays, I changed it so that the lady was actually talking to her late wife so I would be able to submit it. With the addition of a few extra details, I found I liked how it worked, maybe even better than originally.

Coolest of all, however-- I AM GETTING PAID FOR THIS ONE. Yes, for the first time ever, I am getting remuneration for the right to use my play for performance! It isn't much, only fifty dollars, but for a five-minute monologue from a completely unknown baby playwright who has never been paid for a play before, I am bowled over with delight. The only other time I've made money off of my writing was the one time I got paid to run my larp Alice in Chicago, and the peanuts I got for those fashion articles I was writing. And I guess with the theater reviews I'll be doing now. But I like this one best of all! One step closer to the pipe dream of making a living as a playwright...
