I made lampshade hats!

I was given these two white, kind of flat lampshades and told to make them into hats for fancy ladies for Caucasian Chalk Circle. They're supposed to be kind of silly, gaudy rich ladies, so I got to just decorate them absurdly. The chief costumer gave me some scraps in the color scheme of their costumes. I used this fabric to cover certain panels on the shades, then twisted them and gathered them up to make flowers and bows. For one of them I even glued on this cheesy costume pearl necklace I've had in my stash forever; I might add more embellishments like that if I can find any lying around. Here's what they currently look like. (Ignore how stupid I look in these pictures, it's been a long residency week.)

To make them wearable, I bought skinny little plastic headbands from the drugs store. Wider ones probably would have worked better, but these were all I could find, so I glued two together to make them more substantial. Then I glued these into the inside of the shades. They now can sit jauntily on the head, and are quick and easy to put on and off. They are slightly silly looking, but in the right way, I think. I think they're cute!
I love making hats!
