I finished writing the rules to Professor Pollack's game invention, Nannon. I'm happy to report that he was pleased, and I got paid. By my calculations, my fee was about seven cents a word, which is pretty pathetic for professional writing, but hey, gotta start somewhere. It'll be good as a resume builder. I also sent my brother a birthday card with some cash in it-- lame present, I'm told, but hey, money's what he wanted, and I figured I'd make him happy. I ended up giving him ten bucks less than I'd originally planned, but that happened to work out to be exactly the same as my writing fee from Pollack, and it irked me to think that it was all getting handed over in a shot. :-) Heh. Ah, well. Happy birthday, Casey, and congratulations to me.

Actually, in the world of gaming, 7cents/word is really good.

Pyramid (SJ Games's online magazine), for example, only pays 3cents/word.

Really? Huh, interesting. I know in print, good ones can get fifty cents, and the really big guys can get a dollar.

I don't think anyone in the gaming industry, in print or otherwise, has ever made dollar/word - maybe the writers for the dnd core books, but even that would surprise me.
