But what if I NEED a tilde?

I have recently noticed that on my keyboard, the printed symbols for the quotation marks and the "at" symbol are switched. The keys still type as normal, but the pictures are backwards. Weird. It also doesn't seem to want to allow me to use the number symbol or the tilde. It gives me \ instead of the former and | instead of the latter. Those characters have their own key in the bottom left corner, but it does the same thing as the number symbol/tilde key. Very strange, and kind of irritating.

Soon, hopefully today, I need to go in to the Computer Science Department and figure out what hours I will be working during the school year. I'm looking into a greatly reduced schedule, so I need to pick when I can make it. I don't want too many hours, I have too many classes and will have too much work for that, but it'll nice to earn a little extra money.

Sounds like you enabled an international layout instead of standard US.

Gee, I think you're right. I wonder why I got that, I didn't ask for it or specify anything unusual.

Because you won some sort of accidental one woman lottery? Because you're just that cool? Because your computer knows you harbor secret ambitions of travel abroad? Or maybe because you held down the wrong keys too long and it switched input modes. Anyhow, you should be able to straighten things out in the language/region options, methinks.
