My mom just sent me MINI PIE PLATES. MINI PIE PLATES, I TELL YOU. I LOVE HER SO MUCH.

Because it's my wonderful mother, the package contained, in addition to the MINI PIE PLATES, chewable immune supplements, a mini-DV of her riding her horse Braveheart, a couple of chocolate kisses, and a humorous short story parodying Lovecraft fandom entitled "The Eldritch Pastiche from Beyond the Shadow of Horror."

I love packages from my mom.

My first day back at home for Thanksgiving ran as it usually does-- slept well, ate well, hung out with my parents, and saw the pony. Braveheart is well, fat and happy as ever, and so very spoiled by my mother, to whom he is probably the favorite child. Mom and I went shopping for Thanksgiving dinner and bought a ton of stuff, probably more than we need given that it'll just be the three of us, without my relatives this year, and with my brother still being in Europe. I made dinner tonight, chicken marsala that came out very well, and I'm very much looking forward to the cooking tomorrow. I haven't had much of a chance to cook recently given all how busy I've been, so I'm excited to be able to go back to polishing my culinary skills.

I'm not sure what you guys all have for Thanksgiving, but the traditional Roberts family Thanksgiving always has a few certain dishes. We have turkey and stuffing like everybody else, with mashed potatoes (that even I eat without guilt for once), baked yams, brussel sprouts, cranberry relish, pear and parsnip puree, and pumpkin and apple pie. Not sure how some of these became traditional for us, but I certainly enjoy it. Interestingly, this is one of the few holidays that my family's Italian heritage doesn't seem to influence the way we celebrate. We have Italian touches in our Easter and Christmas, but not really anything in Thanksgiving.

Here's hoping that you all have a lovely Thanksgiving, with plenty of good food and dear loved ones to share it with.

Just got out of the first shower I've taken in the brand-new shower my parents had built in the master bathroom at my house. It's really beautiful, all black marble tiles with white veins to match the bathroom floor. The fixtures are all brass, with two showerheads, one a huge wide rainshower spout, one more like a traditional kind on a rod so you can both move up and down and remove it to use it handheld. You can even use them both at the same time if you don't mind lower water pressure. Very pretty, very luxurious.

I'm kind of frustrated with the progress of my skin. I know it's been only a little over two weeks, but I wish my acne was a little farther gone. I've been using my acne medication faithfully, and I guess it is getting better, however slowly, but it's still got a long way to go and it's drying my skin out. Just got to stick with it, I guess.

Had a an early morning riding lesson today. Kincaid was better than I expected him to be, so I'm pleased. Got a good workout in the process, keeping up with my intention to excercise every day. I've managed to either run, ride, or use weights every day since I got home. Tomorrow my mom and I will be going to ride together, her on Braveheart and me on Kincaid.

We've also decided to make a berry pie. Mmmm, my favorite.

The  vet came for Braveheart today. It was a young vet, one we've never had before, who came to give him his shots. He's always a very good boy for any work like that done on him. He was also needed a procedure that involves a tranquilizer as part of the standard method. Like all vets we have for the first time, she wouldn't believe us when we told her that despite the fact that he's a fairly large horse, he's a total lightweight when it comes to sedatives and needs about a fourth of a normal dose. She gave him half, and he was so loopy that he almost fell over and crushed her while she worked. Like we haven't had him sedated a few times in the eight years we've owned him and don't know what always happens.

When she was done, we told her about our dog Carmen and asked her advice. Carmen is nearly fourteen and a half years old and in very bad shape, and it's pretty clear that it's time to put her down. I hate the thought of losing her, but I don't want her to hurt anymore. She's my girl. The problem is she's terrified of going to the vet's office, and we don't want her to be afraid at the end. The vet suggested either calling someone to perform the procedure at the house, or giving her a certain dose of Benedryl to knock her out, and then bringing her to the hospital unconscious to have it done. We should be doing this within the next week or so, because I want to be with her when it happens.

My poor girl.

Today's entry will be exceedingly random observations and comments.

My hair is longer than it's been in a long time. Next haircut, I will have to ask for a few inches off to keep things from becoming flat.

I have a sick fondness for making Mario and Peach fight each other in Smash Brothers because I can make trailer trash domestic abuse jokes. It's made even more awesome when Peach hits him with her frying pan. :-) Looking forward to doing the same with Link and Zelda.

My mom and I horseback rode today, her on Braveheart and me on Kincaid. It was very nice. Kincaid is always pretty messed up when I come back after a long time, but by now I'm used to it.

I love these little glass Coke bottles. They're more fun to drink from than the regular cans, and they're a significantly smaller serving of Coke without seeming to be.

We're having yellowtail for dinner tonight. Maybe I'll have one more thing to add to my limited but growing cooking repetoire. I probably won't make it on my own much, it's awfully expensive, but I'm eager to learn more dishes.

It's bizarre how bright it still is outside. I'm not yet used to the longer days since the season changed, but I like it.

I felt like i had more when I sat down to write this, but I guess that's all for now.

Amazing how I can be home for three days and have already turned my bedroom into a disaster area. Perhaps some cleaning is in order.

I went to see my family's horse Braveheart today. Well, mostly my mom's horse, but we all love him. For those of you who haven't seen his picture on my phone six or seven times, he's a pinto bay Tennessee Walker who is very, very beautiful. I should be taking a riding lesson sometime this week. That'll be good for me, I'm extremely out of practice. The horse I typically ride, Kincaid, is probably just as bad.

I think I'd like to do some work on a larp today. Men of Respect seems to be nagging at me. Maybe I can actually make some progress on it. I should probably do some schoolwork too, but unsurprisingly, I'd rather work on the larp.
