I am attempting to take advantage of my current pleasantly low stress level to do larp work. We're far enough along on Paranoia that we're into writing character sheets now. We're all assigned to write one team each, and I've made a decent chunk of progress on two of my six characters. I'm ambitiously aiming to have at least rough drafts done for all of them by the end of this week. They're not enormous or particularly difficult, so it seem fairly achievable, though I will say they aren't coming quite as easily as I thought they would. We just have to come up with a decent name for it besides just "Paranoia." Attempts thus far have not been impressive. Oz progress is slow, but at least I've got the mental presence to devote some focus to it. I finally wrote up my bid for that game, that's a step in the right direction. The trouble was I'm still in the process of hammering out the story, so I'm not exactly sure how to describe it in the blurb. Ah, well. I guess if I work out a better one I can always change it later.

It occurs to me that I'm going to be running three games at Festival this year-- Alice, Oz, and Paranoia. I'm delighted to rerun Alice, as I will with Jared's help. It's a large game, but it's both so rules-light and we both know it so well that it doesn't really need more than just the two of us. As for Oz, it's a small game, so Bernie is the only other person I'll need to help me run that. He's great to help GM because he's capable, and he doesn't larp so having him doesn't reduce the player pool. Though the pressure is on, I will be really glad to finally be writing another larp of my own. I've been coasting on the success of Alice for way too long. ;-) I'm also helping write Paranoia. In fact, Paranoia has both a huge writing team and a huge GMing team, consisting of Bernie, Joe, Mac, Matt, and myself. Hopefully we'll all be there to run it. I'm pleased with and excited for this, but I'm wondering if I'll not get enough playing time with three of my slots already taken. I don't mind not getting to play per se, but I am concerned I might miss games that I particularly want to be in. I know a couple of the games I'm interested in that will be running at Festival I have or will have already played, such as GM Space or League of Extraordinary Hogwarts students, so perhaps I won't feel shorted. GM Space will undoubtedly run Sunday morning anyway, so that time slot won't conflict. Speaking of time slots, I'm hoping that Alice runs in the evening-- probably Friday. Bernie wants Paranoia to run in the evening on Saturday, to give his brother Joe the best chance to come to Waltham from Maryland to help run the game. I don't really have a preference for when Oz runs, except that it not conflict with, say, Jared's game so that he can play in it.

I have a good feeling about all of this. Here's hoping it pans out. I guess I'd better get back to work.

Have you ever seen someone wearing a trenchcoat or something similar with their scarf under the collar of the coat rather than inside it? I've noticed this phenomenon fairly frequently recently, and I don't get it. How can a scarf keep you warm when it's not actually touching your neck? Is it just purely decorative there? That's nice, I guess, but wouldn't it be equally decorative if worn in a way that would also keep you warm?

I'm at home now, curled up in bed. It took almost seven hours to get here and I was fairly carsick, and I'm only just now losing the headache. I was working on coming up with technobabble component piece names for the Paranoia larp, and names for characters. The naming conventions are a three-piece hyphenate. The first part is your given name, usually one syllable, then the first letter of the color of your clearence level, then another one-syllable word to indicate what facility you were spawned in. It's best when it's some sort of pun on a real word. Like, one of the red-level characters is named Hum-R-Us, pronounced 'humorous.' Red  names are pretty easy. I'm trying to come up with I for infrared and Y for yellow. I like them best when the word actually includes the sound of the letter in it-- like Par-I-Ah. Y words or phrases are hard, though. The best I've come up with is Hot-Y-Erd.

Packing up and getting ready to head home. Casey went to pick up his friend in Boston who will be catching a ride in our car. I am cleaning up the room and putting fresh sheets on the bed so I can come back to everything just right.

I am planning on spending this break accomplishing things. I am going to watch what I eat and work out. I am going to work on my various larp projects, specifically Oz, my next solo piece, Men of Respect with Jared, and the Paranoia game with Bernie, Mac, and Joe. I am going to learn to cook more dishes. I am going to take proper care of my skin. I might even start looking for a post-graduation job.

This is a tall order, and will take discipline to not just be a lazy-ass, as is my inclination. But I have faith in myself.

Happy Easter, everyone. Not a bad weekend at all this time around.

Friday after a leisurely lunch with Jared, I ran over to the Natick mall to wander around for a few hours. I'm not a big shopper or anything, but I enjoy walking around looking at things and letting my mind wander. I also like it when I can get in long walks without really thinking about it; it's good exercise as well as a nice way to spend a day. I did buy a little bar of solid lotion at the Lush store that smells like white chocolate and feels delightful on my skin. I am something of a sucker for things that make me soft and smell nice. If BPAL made lotion, I'd be their best customer.

In the evening I played in Bernie's Paranoia game, which was a ton of fun. I also met Bernie's brother Joe, who is a really good guy despite the disproportionate amount of time he and Bernie spend being the Bobsey Twins. I actually got to be Team Leader this time, but it amused me to gun after Sheena. Only 'cause I love him, of course. Kindness's character kept getting me to test his various kinds of B3 cola, which had me variably high as a kite, hyper-crazy, or totally addicted-- and, being the ham that I am, I had to act out the effects. The best part was when I realized Mac's character had drunk the only other incredibly addictive vanilla variety, so I shot her open and started eating her to try and get some more of it. :-)

Saturday was Spycraft. The mod went very well, I was in a mod with Lise and Joe, and it only lasted a reasonable four hours, instead of the maddening typical six or seven. Jared got to debut his new character and things went went for him too. Joe also gave him some advice about the mod I want to write, which helped me fix one of the many stumbling blocks that have been keeping me from finishing the thing. The evening went to helping Sheena babysit his very cute nephew Alex.

Today on Easter Sunday I went to church, which was extremely crowded but very pleasant. Jared and I then went to a nice pizza lunch, and I hung around my room doing various things. Tonight I will be having dinner at Alex's place, and I will be breaking Lent with Jared and the red velvet cake he's making me for dessert.

All in all, very pleasant so far, and promises to end pleasantly as well.

Glad Tuesday and Wednesday are over. This weekend should be nice from here on out. Though not as nice as I'd hoped it would be. My parents were supposed to come up to be with my brother and I on Easter, but stuff came up so that they can't make it. Now I'm a bit out of luck. I've never not had any way to celebrate Easter before, so I'm kind of disappointed.

Instead, I'm hoping to game and get off campus. I've been in roleplay withdrawal for a while now. Friday nght I'll be playing in Bernie's Paranoia oneshot, and there may be a Spycraft game running on Saturday. In the evening I'll be helping Sheena babysit his nephew. Sunday is still open. I'm definately going to church, but since I can't be with my family, I'd like to maybe go to a nice dinner, or at least go somewhere fun. I've been wanting to go to the mall, either Burlington or Natick, for a while, so maybe I'll do that. Not the most traditional way to spend Easter, but I'd like to find some way to enjoy it.

My parents came and went today. My brother Casey and I had a nice dinner with them and saw a show at Emerson before they left. It was nice to see them, and I am so grateful to my mother for all the work she's doing for the Hamlet set.

I enjoyed Bernie's Paranoia game last night. I decided on a whim that my character wanted to be Team Leader, so I was secretly engineering lots and lots of death for the person who was Team Leader. The fact that that person happened to be Sheena made things even better. I love you, Sheena, even when I want you dead.

I'm sorry I missed

[personal profile] rigel's party. Don't get me wrong, I was happy to see my parents, but I'm sorry their visit coincided with this night. Not only did it have so many of my friends there, everyone was encouraged to dress up in a school theme. It pains my heart to miss an opportunity to dress up as a naughty schoolgirl. Of course, I believe [personal profile] bleemoo dressed as one to fill the void. I must see the pictures at some point.

Tomorrow, since I have managed to finish all my homework, I plan to go to the thrift store in Waltham to search for more Hamlet costume pieces. I made a trip to Hot Topic with Diana this past Thursday, and we got some awesome goth gear there, but we're not finished yet. I need lots of dark jeans to tear up, and stompy combat boots. I expect to go around one o'clock, and anyone who'd like to come is welcome.

My mom and dad are coming up from Pennsylvania this weekend to visit. They're mostly coming for my brother's first parents' weekend at Emerson, but they're also coming to see me. My mom and I are going to be making things for Hamlet. She's an art teacher who has done a good bit of theatrical design, so I'm very glad for her help. I'm hoping Jared will be able to take a moment to say hi to her and my dad, and I'd like to introduce them to Sheena while I'm at it. Mom likes being able to put a face to the names I mention.

I am also going to Bernie's Paranoia one-shot tonight. I'm very much looking forward to it, though I had to tell my parents I had an engagement in the evening I'd have to part ways with them for. I'll see them tomorrow, though, so they'll still get to spend more time with me.
